Saints Cyril and Methodius Cemetery (Paige Road)

Established in 1911 through the generous donation of land by Mr. Simulcik and Mr. Getek, the Sts. Cyril and Methodius Cemetery has served as a sacred resting place for generations of faithful. Each donated half an acre, forming the one-acre cemetery that remains active to this day. A church once stood nearby, built prior to 1911, which was tragically lost to fire. A new church was soon constructed and faithfully served the local Catholic community for many decades. Even after the construction of our current parish church, the building continued to be used as a gathering space until its removal in the early 2000s. In 2019, a memorial sign was lovingly placed above the cemetery gate through the support of a dedicated Memorial Fund. The grounds continue to be maintained with reverence, and future enhancements are planned, including the installation of statues honoring Saints Cyril and Methodius.

 Saint Mary’s Cemetery (Woodford Road)

St. Mary’s Church was built in 1914 to serve the growing Catholic population in the Woodford area. For many years, Holy Mass was celebrated at both St. Mary’s and Sts. Cyril and Methodius churches. Priests would travel by train from Fredericksburg to offer Mass at both churches and even in the homes of parishioners, ensuring the faithful were never without the Eucharist.

Though the church building was sold in the 1990s, the cemetery—established around 1919—remains a sacred place of prayer and remembrance. The approximately three-acre plot was generously donated by John Z. Koday and continues to be lovingly cared for. In 2026, the parish will begin important maintenance and preservation efforts to ensure that this hallowed ground continues to reflect the peace and dignity befitting those who rest in Christ.

Each year, on All Souls Day, the parish gathers for a Blessing of the Cemetery at one or both locations, offering prayers for the repose of all souls laid to rest there. Cemetery plots remain available for purchase, and those interested are encouraged to contact the parish office at 804-448-9064.
